Skincare Journey 101: Daily Skincare Regimen

Did you identify your skin type? It’s important to know your skin type so the right products are being used to correct and maintain your skin. The basic way to identify your skin type is by the pore size. Let’s compare your findings by doing a mini-skin analysis.

  1. Take a mirror. A magnifying one is best.
  2. Compare the pore size on your nose to the cheeks.
  • If the pore size on your nose is bigger, then you may have combo/oily skin
  • If the pore size stays the same, you may have normal/dry skin

Again, this is a mini skin analysis. Share this information with your skin specialist and see if your skin type is correctly identified.

Now let’s compare skin conditions. Hormonal factors such as menopause, menses, or puberty may change your sebum production causing breakouts or dryness. Sensitivity to the skin after eating certain foods (dairy, spicy, alcohol, etc.) are other conditions that people may commonly experience. Understanding and differentiating your skin type and condition can help you achieve your skincare goals.

Another factor that may be causing breakouts is your Cell Renewal Factor (CRF) or Cell Turnover Rate. CRF decreases as you mature in age. The average CRF in adults 30-40 is about 30-45 days. Babies and young children’s CRF is twice as fast as adults, hence their blemish-free, glowing skin. The more time it takes to create new skin, the more prone your skin is to clogged pores. Exfoliation is needed to remove accumulated dead skin, nourishing new skin cells, and achieve fewer breakouts for more even, radiant skin.

For your skin to get acclimated to your new and improved skincare regimen, frequency is key. Did you gather your skincare products? Your regimen should include:

  • Cleaner
  • Exfoliant
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer
  • Protect or Correct

This is the BASIC line-up. More will be customized once you establish your habit. I want you to use what you currently have to establish your routine. Once you do, then you’ll know If you will commit. This is the best way to save money and reward yourself to top-grade products.
