Johnson & Johnson has recently recalled their sunscreen due to a cancer-causing carcinogen ingredient called benzene. This ingredient is found in Neutrogena and Aveeno aerosol sunscreen. How did benzene get into the sunscreen? Benzene was not listed as an ingredient. It’s suspected to be a byproduct that was created during either the manufacturing process or the breakdown of the chemical ingredients. The FDA does not require companies to test ingredients for contaminants, nor does it require testing for such chemicals at a finished product stage.
